coast.

Profile
KWETU Training centre is a non-profit making organization registered under the Kenyan NGO Act.  It was founded in 1996 by five professionals in the field of vocational training, business management and administration and marine science who were concerned about inadequate training institutions and employment opportunities for the youth. The centre is involved in implementation of three main activities: research, production and training. KWETU ´s primary target group is the youth between 12-30years.  Women groups and farmers are also given opportunities for training. It has been involved in identifying locally available natural resources to be utilized to meet the needs of the local communities.  It also explores ways of linking up key stake holders to facilitate the sustainable use of these locally based resources.

KWETU carries out intensive information gathering and dissemination to enable the community and other stake holders to benefit from the research. Examples of these include production of training materials, organic foods (raw and processed). After having achieved good experience in this, the skills and technology is passed on to the locals through trainings.

KWETU implemented DSW and NACC projects which focused on reproductive health and HIV/AIDS awareness
where it mainly targeted the youth out of school in Kikambala division.

The organization’s main partners are the youth, women groups, and farmers groups (men & women). KWETU is also
registered in different networks like KANCO, CHACO, and ANA (Adolescent Network Africa) for the youth reproductive
health project. The organization also has different collaborators in each of its department. Some of the collaborators
are German foundation for world population (DSW), National Organization of Peer Educators (NOPE), National AIDS control
council (NACC), OXFAM, KNH, Provincial administration and social services, Toyota Envir, ReCoMaP, CDTF etc.
