Profile
Kwetu is a grassroots Kenya NGO that has been working with communities in the coastal counties of Kenya since 1997 with the aim of eradicating poverty through sustainable development. Poverty is a complex issue, impacted on by interlinked social, cultural, political and economic factors. Accordingly, Kwetu uses a holistic approach to poverty eradication, that includes building communities capacity in reproductive health, governance, environmental conservation and livelihood training in nature based vocations.

Across all its activities, Kwetu utilises the natural resources that are affordable and readily available in the Coast and prioritises the protection of vulnerable coastal ecosystems notably the mangrove ecosystem. Since its establishment, Kwetu has trained over 100 community members annually in neem processing, fish farming, organic farming, food processing and bee keeping.

 
In addition Kwetu provides environmental education, governance and reproductive health education, mobile HIV Counselling and Testing and community outreaches. Kwetu is located on the creek in Mtomondoni village 7km from Mtwapa town.

The site is eco-friendly with solar power and water from a well and rain water collection tanks.

The organisation's main partners are community based organisations, women's groups, youth groups, research institutions and other NGOs. Current donors and partners include ReCoMap, UNDP, the Global Fund for HIV/AIDS and Pact Kenya.
