  Events at Kwetu

Kwetu training centre for sustainable development closed down the 2008 year calendar with an equatorial initiative awarding ceremony which was a welcoming event for the prize; held at Kwetu training centre 0n 20th December 2008.
The event was embraced by distinguished guests from supporting organizations working with Kwetu, Kwetu board members, stakeholders in the community and the members of the community.

The awarding event included music, dancing, tree planting exercise, community presentations and the transference ceremony for the equator prize. The attendants also got a chance to take a tour of Kwetu and learn more about the activities that are undertaken by Kwetu, Kwetu products were also put on display for the community to learn and purchase them.

The event was without doubt the best way to commemorate the year 2008 calendar and the equator prize.

The Environmental Challenge
Kwetu will be holding its annual environmental challenge in a bid to raise funds. The centre’s activities include environmentally friendly income generation opportunities for many unemployed youth, which has been enabled through the support of friends and donors.
The environmental challenge will include plays, live performances, games etc. from local communities and school participants.
The challenge will be held on April of 2009

Milestones | Achievments | Acomplishments


Kwetu’s main accomplishments are:

» Establishment of the centre buildings and training curricula
» Trainings conducted over five years in Neem processing, organic farming, fruit drying, food processing, aquaculture etc.
» Prime community mariculture development program in Kenyan coast.
» Formation of farmers, conservation and youth groups in the community.
» Establishment of good network system with the community

Kwetu’s main achievements are:

» Formation of the first youth council in KENYA on good governance.
» Six community groups actively carry out mangrove conservation programs along the coastal strip through KWETU’s initiative.
» Increased number of youth accessing VCT services at the centre.
» Two community production centers are under construction in Malindi and Kilifi district.
» Community members starting their income generating activities after the trainings.
» Establishment of Neem farmers groups in Kilifi and Malindi district.
» Kwetu has achieved to be awarded an ‘equatorial initiative award’ which was given because of the great inventiveness of community-based work currently being undertaken by Kwetu.
